About the Robinson High School Band Program
The Robinson High School Band Program is proud to offer a wide variety of musical experiences to the student body. Students who participate in the band program have the opportunity to study music through multiple ensembles, including the RHS symphonic band, jazz band, marching band, and pep band. Band members enjoy a wide variety of performances, clinics, and travel experiences throughout the school year. The mission statement of the Robinson Band Program is to "provide students with lifelong skills through positive musical experiences".
The Robinson High School Band has a proud history of excellence in performance. The band's achievements date back to the early 1940's, where school records show that the RHS Band successfully competed in the National Concert Band Festival. More recently, The Marching Maroons took Grand Champion at the 2010 Auto Zone Liberty Bowl Competition, and were semifinalists at the 2006 Bands of American Regional Championships in Indianapolis at the RCA Dome. They were 1st runner up at the 2007 Kentucky Derby Parade, and have been invited to attend three times. In 2014, the band attended the National Chick-Fil-A Bowl Competition where they captured 1st place in the Division I, Concert Band Festival, Marching Festival, and Parade Competition.
In addition to their accomplishments on the marching field, the RHS Symphonic Band has earned straight Division I ratings at the IHSA Organizational Contest for the past several years. The band has had several students selected to participate in the prestigious IMEA honor band, and RHS students have proudly claimed various awards and honors at IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest every year. The RHS Jazz Band is another active part of the program. Students involved in the Jazz Band have played at the EIU Jazz Festival, the OCC Jazz Festival, LTC Jazz Day, and IHSA Organizational Contest. The jazz band also performs at every RHS Music Department Concert, as well as various events throughout the community.
